You can trust us with all technical aspects, security and support systems in place, the speed of releasing funds to registered partners, but ultimately it comes down to assisting you with the one added burden you’re having to carry at this time - covering your loved one’s burial costs.

How do I sign up?

A Funeral Home will be required to complete the initial sign up form on line. This will contain all the information about the business including locations, phone number, email address, bank account information, etc. Once InLieuOf.com verifies your establishment, your account will be active.

Can both Burials and Cremations be funded?

Yes. Both burials and cremations can be funded through InLieuOf.com.
In 2017, cremations exceeded 50% for the first time within the United States. The number one reason folks indicated for selecting cremation was cost. Typically, cremation is 40 to 50% less than traditional burial. InLieuOf.com wants to take the cost factor out of the equation and allow families to select the type of service they truly desire.

How to calculate the goal amount?

The goal amount can be the bare minimum of the goods and services contract that the family has agreed. For some families’ additional monies may be needed to complete the memorial service outside of just the goods and services contract by the funeral home. These may include a grave plot, niche, head stone, family flowers, church or venue fees, minister fees or even travel fees for out of state family members. The idea is to allow families the ability to create the desired service for their loved one if they have no money or limited money and needing assistance to upgrade the type of service.

Once the Funeral Director establishes the goal amount, the system automatically calculates the credit card processing fees and the InLieuOf.com administrative costs to reflect the total funds needed or desired. We want to insure the total services requested can be funded and cost of campaign do not impact Funeral Home’s charges.

How Long Does a Funeral Fund Last?

Funeral funds remain open for 30 days.
All donations collected and cleared through the first week will be sent to your funeral home on the 7th day. All additional collected donations will be sent on the 30th day.

The following scenarios can occur:

  1. If all funds are collected prior to the 7th day, they will all be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home as soon as they clear (less fees).
  2. Whatever funds are collected through the 7th day, prior to goal being reached, they will be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less fees) on the 7th day.
  3. Once the goal is reached after the 7th day, but prior to the 30th day, funds will be immediated direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less fees).
  4. Any funds remaining on account on the 30th day will be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less any remaining fees).

What happens if the goal isn’t reached?

All funds collected will be direct deposited via ACH to the funeral home (less fees). If it becomes obvious the goal will not be obtained well prior to the normal 30 days, the managing Funeral Director can go into the system and terminate the campaign.

What do I do if a funeral fund receives more money than the desired goal?

In the event that the Funeral Fund generates more money than the stated goal, the Funeral Service Provider will refund the remainder of the donations to the Next of kin.

The Funeral Service Provider will be responsible to contact the next of kin after ending a Funeral Fund and arranging all appropriate refunds.

How long does it take for the monies to reach our bank account?

  1. If all funds are collected prior to the 7th day, they will all be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home as soon as they clear (less fees).
  2. Whatever funds are collected through the 7th day, prior to goal being reached, they will be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less fees) on the 7th day.
  3. Once the goal is reached after the 7th day, but prior to the 30th day, funds will be immediated direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less fees).
  4. Any funds remaining on account on the 30th day will be direct deposited (ACH) to the funeral home (less any remaining fees).

Can Memorials be set up at InLieuOf.com?

InLieuOf.com can also be a tool to allow families that desire a donation to a charity or special organization in the name of the loved one to be collected and the family make the contribution directly. Typically, you would see something similar to this:

"In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation to XYZ charity in the name of the deceased." Just simply change the verbiage to something like this: "In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting donations here (this will be a link to the www.inlieuof.com campaign) that they can make to a charitable organization in the name of the deceased."

This allows you to create a general campaign with no specific goal amount and then rebate the monies collected to the family after the service has been completed.

Research has shown that some folks will not donate to a campaign directly in the deceased name because they personally do not support that organization. By setting up a general memorial donation, a family can decide later where they want the monies donated or they may elect to purchase a bench in the name of the deceased for their favorite park or golf course or etc.
